Program/ Department Summary

In Indonesia, district and city governments have begun to apply the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) encouraging people to stay home. This has affected agricultural activity and business, including smallholder farmers. There are at least two main challenges currently faced by smallholder farmers in doing their farm practices in this situation: (1) Difficulties to sell their crops/farm products since the collectors/traders have reduced their purchasing capacity or because of limited open hours in local markets.

Mercy Corps Indonesia will reach ~500,000 smallholder farmers (20% are women) and 10,000 farmer’s wives in 48 districts in 14 Provinces (TBD) through distribution crop protection and contraception products, dissemination of information on product knowledge to support the proper use, time, and dosage of crop protection and contraception products, providing access to accurate, timely and contextualized COVID-19 health messaging,
